Jonny Aviles

Jonthan was born in Poughkeepsie NY. At age 5 his family moved out west to Madera Ranchos, California. He grew up in “The Ranchos”, and blossomed as a student-athlete, at Liberty High School. After graduation, he immediately moved to Los Angeles to attend the Art Institute of California to obtain a culinary degree.

While Jonathan was in Los Angeles, he was fortunate to work for some great chefs, and still refers to them regularly. He moved back to Madera in 2015 and started cooking at restaurants in Fresno.

When he was hired at The Point Patio Bar and Bistro, he first met Matt Simons, his future partner. Jonathan and Matt worked together for several years, often talking about opening a place together someday. Jonthan moved on to Mad Duck Brewery, where he was one of their sous chefs.

Jonathan is very close with his family, and enjoys cooking when he isn’t at work COOKING.

MATT SIMONS

Matt was born in Fresno, CA. At an early age Matt realized he was finding himself  in the kitchen helping his mom with food preparations. After graduating from Clovis High School, he moved to Portland, Oregon.

Matt engulfed himself in the food scene of Portland, and ended up owning and operating a rock and roll club.

Matt attended the Oregon Culinary Institute and became a private chef for The Dandy Warhols. While working them, he traveled and cooked for a number of rock and roll celebrities.

In 2015 Matt moved back to Fresno to be near his family. Matt cooked at Maxs Bistro, before helping open The Point Patio Bar and Bistro. He continued as their Executive Chef for seven years.

"A distinctive, well-preserved and comfortable space, high-quality products, authentic cuisine, food and drinks are done flawlessly."

What People Are Saying
Father’s Day brunch was a big hit at Smash Bros Bistro. My family of 5 enjoyed the vibe, interesting music and friendly staff. I demolished my breakfast smash burger and helped my youngest daughter with her potatoes and eggs. The pancakes are unique as Chef Jonathan adds his special touch which all around received praise and I highly recommend the Chai Latte which compliments everything. Overall, chefs and owners Matt and Jonathan have put together something special that I can tell they are proud of and work very hard make everyone feel a little extra warm and fuzzy. So check out Smash Bros Bistro on Fresno and Bullard and I know you will walk out with a smile on you face and a happy feeling inside!

This location provides SUCH a great burger, (and sides) with fresh fixings and an atmosphere that is perfect for a quick lunch break or even a casual date night! If you go, make sure to ask for extra pickles on the burger- it takes it to the next level!

I strongly recommend giving this spot a try. The food is next level. These are culinary chefs doing what they love. I've had the smash burgers, of course, and they're great - these guys even make their own pickles! The fried chicken is amazing, and you get a huge sliced piece of it on the Caesar salad. I haven't tried the wedge salad, but it looks awesome - they use their own pickled onions on it. All sauces and dressings are from scratch. Saturday and Sunday for brunch will give you an opportunity to try the best pancakes you will probably ever have had. One of the owner/ chefs is Italian, so of course, there is a pasta dish on the menu, which I have tried, and it is excellent as well. Their french fries are as good as any of the best fries in town (such as Doghouse grill, Little Leaf, or McD's). And, do yourself a favor and try a slice of cake, which made my daughter say "wow".
